Emily joined our staff in January of 2009 after moving from Abilene, TX. She grew up in Leesville, LA and finished her undergraduate work with a BS in Biology in 2000 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. She left the south for Physical Therapy school and earned her MPT at Eastern Washington University in Spokane, WA in 2003. Upon graduation she wanted to specialize in pediatrics and took her first job in Abilene, TX at West Texas Rehabilitation Center in the pediatric department. At West Texas Rehabilitation Center she worked with children and their families both in an outpatient setting as well in the local school district. She was promoted to Senior Pediatric Physical Therapy and Center Coordinator for Clinical Education (CCCE) in 2007 and worked closely with student interns in both the PT and OT departments and with their schools. She has experience working with children with of all ages who were born prematurely, with developmental delay, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and has seen a whole host of childhood abnormalities and disabilities. She returned to her home state after 5 years in Texas to find new challenges and be closer to her family. Along with the position of Senior Physical Therapist she is our Center Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE) and schedules all of our student internships for all departments.

Emily is a Pediatric Clinical Specialist (PCS) and received her board certification as a clinical specialist in pediatrics in 2010. She is also certified in NeuroDevelopmental Treatment Approach for Children and further trained in Aquatic Therapy, Integrated Listening System (iLS), Interactive Metronome (IM), Brain Gym, Kineso Tape, Biomechanical examinations of the legs and feet, and Wheelchair evaluations for custom seating systems. She has also worked closely with medical equipment suppliers for the acquisition of adaptive equipment such as standers and walkers/gait trainers and has worked closely with Orthotists by making recommendations for the fabrication of custom orthotics. She also performs all of our serial casting for both the upper and lower extremities.

Emily is our resident car seat expert and is a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. She is qualified to perform car seat checks and teach families how to properly install car seats. She has also further training in special needs car seats and has several demo car seats for families try out before submitting to insurance for purchase. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) and NeuroDevelopmental Treatment Association (NDTA). She also volunteers in the community as part of the Junior League of Baton Rouge and with Wheels to Succeed.
