Activities of Daily Living

Activities of daily living are those that we tend to do every day, such as, grooming, bathing, feeding, cooking, dressing, and organizing the schoolbag.  Our occupational therapists work as a team with families, physical therapists, and speech therapists to improve our client’s overall functional abilities.  While working on the functional task itself, our therapists also determine any need to improve a pre-requisite skill.  Some common pre-requisite skills for dressing include the following: joint mobility, coordination, balance/equilibrium, arm and hand graded control, controlled grasp/release, visual tracking, visual perception, tactile discrimination, and body awareness/body scheme.
